Learning Through Gardening - An Educational Resource
This course aims to provide a springboard for teachers to embrace the growing list of research that shows school garden programs enhance learning, improve health and can engage disengaged students. Learning is most effective when the subject matter is "demystified," and familiar to the learner, and presented in a manner that considers the varied learning styles and even abilities of the student population found in today's classrooms.
The course will take teachers on a journey into the amazing garden programs for students of Dorchester School within Reiby Juvenile Justice Centre. They will run through a series of workshops from how to create specific gardens to how to best use the gardens as a functioning resource in the school. The teachers will hear from experts from the Royal Botanic Gardens and other organisations as well as staff from the Centre, who will show how effective the garden program is as a learning resource and to engage students.
Please note: this course is offered by the Botanic Gardens and Domain Trust and is being promoted by Cultivate NSW only. Click on "Booking Link" to be taken to the Botanic Gardens Event Page.
