Who is someone you admire, and why?
I have to include two !
Gertrude Jekell , iconic British Landscape Designer. What a powerhouse of a woman... total admiration and respect for her. Love her quote...
"A garden is a grand teacher. It teaches patience and careful watchfulness; it teaches industry and thrift; above all it teaches entire trust."
And Peter Cundall, for his generosity of time, knowledge and boundless enthusiasm for all things horticulture.
Not to mention he was arrested in his 80's, at a protest to save trees in the Tamar Valley. Now that is living !
What have been the therapeutic benefits of nature/gardens for yourself?
I'm a horticulturist with a background in Rehabilitation Counselling. I am very appreciative of the wonderful opportunity to combine both careers. I currently teach horticulture at mental health centres, community groups and in correctional centres. The therapeutic benefits I have witnessed in a wide variety of settings, have been nothing short of amazing. It is such a privilege to share the wonderment of nature and experience the joy that gardens and nature bring to all our lives.
Where is your favourite place to be in nature?
Piet Oudolf's quintessential garden in Hummelo, Netherlands is a heartfelt favourite. It's an inspiration on sooo many levels.
A close second is being in our humble garden in the Blue Mountains...I so love it!
