Kath Temple - Committee Member

Meet Kath Temple,
one of Cultivate NSW's committee members.
Kath is a Horticultural TAFE teacher specialising in teaching Landscape Design. She has a special interest in designing gardens in aged care centres, playspaces and sensory gardens in schools and redesigning gardens lost by bushfires. She volunteers in a local aged care facility. She teaches designing therapeutic gardens as part of the design course and loves to encourage her students to follow this area of Landscape design.
Who is someone you admire, and why?
My Dad as he taught me to love the garden and inspired me to pursue therapeutic garden design.
What have been the therapeutic benefits of nature/gardens for yourself?
Nature helps me cope with stress and unwind. I enjoy seeing people interact with nature.
Name two plants that you love to grow and why?
Sweetpeas- for the perfume and flowers and they remind me of my childhood Any bushtucker plants - love how versatile they are and how they are growing all around us in nature.
Where is your favourite place to be in nature?
The beachside and the mountains.
If you were a tree, what kind would you be, and why?
A Banksia serrata. I love the form of the tree and it's character.
Name a song/artist you've been enjoying listening to lately?
The Whitlams.
Your favourite gardening tool and why?
Secateurs as they are so useful for propagating, pruning, reshaping plants, and picking flowers to enjoy inside.
Your favourite podcast/radio show?
Conversation hour on ABC 702.
